The "Far To Early" OSG College Football Dirty Dozen

I woke up this morning to take my son to the bus stop and there was a chill in the air. It's May and I had to put on a jacket but it got me in college football mode. Back here at OSG HQ we put together our "Far To Early" Dirty Dozen. Read them and talk amongst yourselves.

The OSG "Far To Early" Dirty Dozen

1. Florida – The Gators return all 11 starters on defense and their back-ups and that defense was damn good last year. Their special teams is among the nations best and on offense, they are loaded at running back with Chris Rainey, Emmanuel Moody, and Jeff Demps. Then there’s that Tim Tebow dude at quarterback. He’s only going for his second Heisman Trophy and 3rd national championship. Hard to see the Gators not sinking their teeth into another SEC and national championship.

2. Oklahoma – Sam Bradford deciding to stay in Norman keeps the Sooners in the national championship picture. OU’s defense is spectacular. Will they be Florida’s punching bag again?

3. Oklahoma State – Watch out for the Cowboys, they will be loaded on offense and if they can consistently stop someone on defense, the Pokes should be BCS bound. Their will be some good times this fall at Eskimo Joes.

4. Texas – The Longhorns will be a very motivated team this year after falling just short of a BCS Championship Game berth. Colt McCoy is back but the defense lost a lot of talent from last year. Circle October 17th on your calendar, that’s the Red River Shootout with OU.

5. USC – A little nervous about putting the Trojans this high in the dozen because of losing their linebacking corps and Mike Sanchez but they are USC, which means some equally talented recruit will step up.

6. Virginia Tech – What I hear from Blacksburg is that Bud Foster really likes his defense. That’s good enough for me. Tyrod Taylor is the unquestioned starter at quarterback and had a great spring plus Darren Evans might be one to the best running backs in country.

7. Alabama – The Crimson Tide defense will be awesome. The offense must rebuild its O-line who made a NFL prospect out of John Parker Wilson, that can happen will you literally have all day to throw. Jolly ole St. Nick Saban will like this team.

8. Ole Miss – This should be the breakout year for the Rebels. QB Jevon Snead can play and has some nice weapons to throw and hand off to. The schedule is favorable as well. I know its Ed Ogeron’s recruits be Houston Nutt can flat out coach. When is the 1st tailgate at the Grove?

9. LSU – John Chavis is the defensive coordinator so the Tiger defense should be stout. You know somewhere Les Miles will make a decision that will make Tiger fans scream “What in hell!!!” but he almost always gets away with it.

10. Ohio State – Even when you want to ignore the Buckeyes they just won’t let you. Terrelle Pryor is “the man” now. The defense returns 7 starters. They will win the 10 again, ho hum.

11. Georgia Tech – All 11 starters return on offense and you know how potent it can be. Expect Jonathan Dwyer to run wild again. With a year under his belt running Paul Johnson’s offense QB Josh Nesbitt will be dangerous. The offense will score points but can the defense prevent points.

12. NC State – I’m playing a hunch here but I really like the Wolfpack, especially how State finished 2008. Russell Wilson will be a star in the ACC, the top playmakers of NC State’s defense return. Tom O’Brien’s plan is beginning to work.
