Blount Suspended
There was little surprise late this afternoon as the University of Oregon announced that Senior Running Back LeGarrette Blount, he of Thursday nights sucker punch against Boise State, has been suspended for the remainder of the 2009 Football season. Blount however will be allowed to participate in practices, keep his scholorship and basically have full access to the football facilities.
The story from OregonLive.com here .

Oregon Head Coach Chip Kelly has been quoted as saying "LeGarrette is a good kid, he needs to be a part of this, he needs to have structure in his life". Okay, we get that part and we don't necessarily want to see a young guy ostracized for an obvious mistake. However, we think that the punishment doesn't seem to necessarily send the message about how poor Blount's judgement was. It was bad enough he punched/dropped a guy, he also tried to go after one of his teammates how tried to get him out of there and then the crowd as he was being pushed off of the field. It seems as though...at least on the surface that young Mr. Blount has some issues to deal with. While we empathize there, too much is being made of ruining his professional chances and not enough over the chaos that he created. There I will get off the Soapbox now.
