Ice Edge Has Saskatoon Booked; Five For Fighting

A report says that Ice Edge Holdings, which is one of the three groups bidding for the Phoenix Coyotes franchise, has booked the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon ((pictured, thanks flickr.com)) for five potential games.

The Canwest News Service says that should Ice Edge be awarded the franchise, the five games in Saskatoon would still require NHL approval. The five dates are Nov. 12 (Montreal Canadiens), Dec. 21 (Columbus Blue Jackets), Jan. 21 (Nashville Predators), Feb. 8 (Edmonton Oilers), and Mar. 2 (St. Louis Blues).

Ice Edge partner Daryl Jones said in the report that despite the Canadian dates, his group still plans to operate the team in Arizona.

"Our focus to play NHL hockey long-term in Phoenix and we're in the middle of finalizing the lease (at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Ariz.)," said Jones. "While we want to bring a limited number of games to a great hockey city like Saskatoon, our long-term commitment is to Phoenix and Glendale."

Jones said that while the five dates have been reserved in Saskatoon, there is still a chance the some of the games could be awarded to another Canadian city. Halifax was one of the candidates mentioned by Ice Edge when the original announcement was made last month.

"We are still in discussions with other cities, but our preference would be Saskatoon," said Jones.
