Just Think, Frank Beamer Could Have Been Alabama's Head Coach

As the hype begins for Saturday's for the Virginia Tech/Alabama game at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta I was reminded how Alabama had a jones for Hokie head coach Frank Beamer to come to Tuscaloosa.

When Gene Stallings retired following the 1995 season Beamer was the Alabama's short list but promoted Mike Debose. Things got a little more serious between Beamer and the Crimson Tide in 2000 but Beamer stayed in Blacksburg and the Crimson Tide hired Dennis Franchione. Two years later when coach Fran bolted for Texas A&M Alabama came calling again but Beamer said thanks for calling, but he's happy in Blacksburg. So Mike Price was hired and the rest is history.

Don Kausler of The Birmingham (Ala.) News imagines what if Frank Beamer had been offered the job as Alabama head coach. It's a good and interesting read.
