Melanie Oudin has advanced to the U.S. Open quarterfinals with another comeback victory, beating 13th-seeded Nadia Petrova 1-6, 7-6 (2), 6-3.

The 17-year-old American, ranked 70th in the world, lost the first set in 31 minutes Monday and was one point from falling behind 5-3 in the second. But she rallied to force a tiebreaker, then took advantage of 22 unforced errors by Petrova to roll in the third.

Oudin improved to 17-4 in three-set matches this season. She has won her three three-setters at Flushing Meadows after dropping the first set.

She adds this victory to wins over No. 4 Elena Dementieva and No. 29 Maria Sharapova, and will see her ranking rise to at least No. 45 when the tournament is over.
