Oklahoma High School Coach Suspends Himself For Season
((HT: newsok.com/Aber))
This oughta cure everything for Jenks High, right...???
If there's something wrong, I'll suspend myself for the rest of the semester...
Sure it will...
Ryan Aber of the Oklahoman picks up the story...
The suspension came after an independent investigation into the Jenks athletic program revealed ((Head Coach Allen)) Trimble ((pictured, thanks Nate Billings/The Oklahoman)) had not informed Jenks district personnel that Jarrett Lake, a player who had come to Jenks from a school in Virginia, was residing with Jenks booster/volunteer Clyde "Red” Griffith.
The investigation also revealed that Lake had participated in a workout in front of coaches before he was enrolled at the school and participated in a 2008 summer camp without being enrolled and paid substantially less than the $275 fee to attend.
Jenks athletic director Tony Dillingham, assistant coach David Alexander and Griffith were also punished by the district.
Here's the rest of the story from KJRH-TV/NBC2 in Tulsa
Here are the rest of the documents released by the Jenks School District on their independent investigation...
Trimble has guided Jenks to nine titles since 1996, and the OSSAA is going to review the case on their own and see if extra punishment is neccessary in their view.
Jenks had to forfeit nine wins from the 2008 season after it was initially discovered that Lake was ineligible in the first place. Jenks program could be placed on probation- which would mean that they would be ineligible for the playoffs. They've been in the post-season every year since 1988.
Those of us at OSG HQ are not naive enough to think that stuff like this doesn't happen in high school athletics- which has been involved in the ideas of big business for a while now.
But if you live by it, you die by it...
The folks who follow Jenks are in for a rude awakening for their program...
