NFL Commisioner Roger Goodell must, at least to his constituency, be doing a very good job. His contract, which was set to expire in September of 2011, has been extended until March of 2015. Yeah, we are thinking the same thing, isn't that a long way out? Yes, it is. Particularly with the labor issues that are about to put the NFL in a bit of a state of flux this upcoming season.
Oh, by the way, the Jolly Roger will not get a pay increase during that period. Speculation is that he wanted it to send a message that the NFL can tighten its belt...how about the NFLPA?

As we mentioned before, the NFL's collective bargaining agreeement (CBA) runs out this coming season. The league is set to start the 2010 season without a salary cap and supposedly the Players Association and the league are trying to negotiate a deal.
While we think that all athletes are overpaid, we think the same thing about corporate executives. Our big issue with the NFL is that they don't: (a) have guaranteed contracts or (b) a good retirement plan for former players. Say what you will, football players more than any other sport, put there bodies on the line and physically are never the same after they retire.
We hope that an agreement will come and there will be no labor strife to America's most popular sport, but we have a sneaking suspicion...that won't happen.
