Iliana Limon reveals that unauthorized phone calls and text messages were the downfall of the University of Central Florida for two years probation.
UCF declared 27 football players ineligible when former recruiting administrator Ed Marynowitz and former director of player personnel Steve Rubio combined to place 209 phone calls and sent close to 100 improper text messages to prospects and their parents before they had signed LOI's.
The staff members were not coaches and did not have authorization to have any phone contact with recruits under NCAA rules. They also violated an NCAA ban on sending text messages to recruits that began in August 2007. Both staff members said the coaching staff was not aware of the violations.
((Of course, they weren't...))
The university self-reported and that's why the penalty is what the penalty is.
Marynowitz is now at the University of Alabama. Rubio is at the University of Tennessee. So, they got promoted and UCF got pounded...
The HQ knows how much sense this makes... always...
Here's the findings from the NCAA and the Sentinel.
The Sentinel's Mike Bianchi is understandably confused...
Here's UCF's signing day extravaganza, thanks to them their ownselves...
