Vols Hostess Idea Being Investigated By NCAA

((HT: NY Times/Thamel, Evans))

Tennessee AD Mike Hamilton is, probably, pulling out what's left of his hair thesse days after the News York Times piece that claims the Vols may be violating NCAA recruting rules.

Most campuses have a "hostess" element where young ladies are escorting recruits in and around campuses and campus events during official visits.

It appears that UT is taking the process one step further. Hostesses, apparently, were seen as far as 200 miles away at a Byrnes High ((SC)) football game holding up signs in an attempt to sway recruits choices for college.

“Typically, we do not comment on inquires that are in progress,” was the Hamilton stock quote that he trotted out again to the Times Tuesday.

Those of us at OSG HQ get the idea of hostesses and their purpose. But we do raise a collective eyebrow when hostesses are seen performing their function in a locale where they're visiting and not hosting- thus the term "hostess."

We don't think Webster's has a "visitess" term yet made up... but it, probably, would fit if someone were to come up with the word...

Hannah Storm caught up with Thamel this morning...

After six secondary violations already under his belt, we think Kiffy is in serious trouble here. At the very least, expect scholarships to get yanked and the kids who have already declared to Tennessee may all be back in play...
