You know that the city of San Diego is rolling sevens and elevens these days...
They are the center of the football universe for the next week or so.
They have the play-in game for the AFC West title between San Diego and the Denver Broncos.
They have the Holiday Bowl between Oregon and Oklahoma State.
And they have the Poinsettia Bowl ((by the way, it's pronounced "poin-set-uh..."))
The Poinsettia Bowl...?
Yup... two top-fifteen teams- Boise State and TCU...
Boise became everyone's sweetheart after their upset of Oklahoma and the subsequent marriage proposal by tail back Ian Johnson. This year, they were looking for an undefeated season. Johnson is now married, but the Broncos were jilted at the altar.
Boise had a lead of 13-0 at one point in the first half, but lost 17-16.
Head Coach Chris Petersen put the blame squarely on the Broncos' red-zone performance.
"That's what got us - too many field goals," Petersen said. " I knew a couple of those field goals were going to come back to haunt us."
