In a Winnipeg Free Press article yesterday, it was disclosed that True North Sports and Entertainment would need ((and was probably going to ask for)) government help to manage the debt load on the MTS Centre as part of bringing the Atlanta Thrashers to Canada...
Not so fast there, pilgrim...
Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger says taxpayers won't subsidize an NHL team in Winnipeg. He hasn't asked them, yet but that's what he thinks... that the provincial government won't cover losses...
Selinger says the province has no interest in supporting the operations of a professional hockey team. However, Selinger says the province will do what it can to help make the city a desirable place to relocate the Thrashers.
Whatever that means...
