Watch Out For Texas Tech

While Oklahoma and Missouri are getting all the attention in the Big 12 conference, don’t forget about that team out in the West Texas prairie.

The 7th ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders are living up to the pre-season hype. Texas Tech is 5-0 after going into Manhattan, Kansas Saturday and putting a beat down on the Kansas State Wildcats. The Red Raiders had dined on creampuffs before taking a trip to America’s Heartland Saturday however, Texas Tech proved that they did not become fat and happy. Texas Tech racked up 626 yards of total offense to overwhelm K-State.

Graham Harrell reached a milestone becoming Texas Tech’s all time leading passer. Harrell’s total currently is 12,709.

“It is a huge honor with all the great quarterbacks that have come through here.” Harrell said. “It comes with a lot of help, I’ve had great receivers here and the offensive line has been great to me. I’ve played in 30 some games here and only been sacked around 30 times and like I said earlier it is a huge honor.”

Harrell would torch the K-State secondary going 38-51 for 454 yards and 6 touchdowns.

“I wouldn’t say that he (Graham Harrell) was the best quarterback I’ve ever coached, but I would say he is the best in the nation this year.” Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach said. “If you lead the nation in passing, I would think you deserve some attention. It’s not like he just does it once in a while. If it was so easy, then everybody would do it, but everybody doesn’t do it; he does it.”

Texas Tech made a statement Saturday that they are capable of winning on the road in the Big 12. That’s important as the meat of the schedule is about to begin for the Red Raiders. Next week they host Nebraska then it’s a pair of road games. First Texas Tech goes down to College Station, Texas to face the lowly Aggies of Texas A&M then at Kansas before hosting Texas and a much improved Oklahoma State Cowboy team. The Red Raiders cap off this stretch from hell at Oklahoma.

If Texas Tech can get through that, and the way the Red Raiders are playing you give them a shot, then not only is it hello BCS, its worthy of a trip to the BCS title game.
