One of the perks in working in local TV was the occasional trip to Stillwater, Oklahoma to check out an Oklahoma State game at Lewis Field (now Boone Pickens Stadium), cover an OSU Cowboy game then grab a meal at Eskimo Joe’s. If you ever go to Stillwater go there, it’s a Stillwater institution.
At the start of the college football season, you expected Texas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma to challenge for the Big 12 South division title. Oklahoma State wasn’t supposed to in the mix but the Pokes are there. With OSU’s ascension the Big 12 South has become arguably the toughest division in college football.
Mike Gundy has gone from raving lunatic (“I’m a man! I’m 40!”) to a hot coaching commodity in a calendar year. Gundy has led the Cowboys to a 6-0 start and ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll for the first time since 1988. The Pokes are 8th in the AP Poll, it’s highest ranking since 1985 when they were 7th.
“It's tremendous. The players have worked very hard and they deserve it.” Gundy said.
Things are so good for Gundy he even joked with the Oklahoma media. At his weekly presser the Mrs. called, check out how he handled that. (Thanks, NewsOK.com)
