Smoltz Gone

Future Hall of Famer John Smoltz has officially been released today from the Boston Red Sox. Smoltz, who had spent all the rest of his career with the Atlanta Braves leaves Boston with a 2-6 record and an 8.33 ERA.

Smoltz has drawn some interest from other MLB teams, they would only be responsible for a pro-rated portion of his salary. Boston offered him a chance to go work it out in the minors, but Smoltz declined.

He will probably end up trying to finish the season someplace, but it appears that his time is over. He's had a great career and much like most aging former stars needs to let go, sit back, relax and enjoy the future. In Smoltz' case, he will be on TV...it's just a matter of when.
