UGA President Michael Adams announced in a presentation to faculty, staff and students this morning that UGA employees will take furlough days on Oct. 30, Nov. 25, Dec. 24, Jan. 4, March 8 and April 30.
Adams told the AJC after the meeting that "coaches will be furloughed," but said there is some flexibility on when they take the days.
"Let me not just put it in coaching terms, but any person who is an employee who would be essential on those [designated furlough] days will have to take a furlough day in that particular month," he said. "But it can be arranged with a supervisor."
The good news for head coach Mark Richt is that the coaching staff won't have to take those exact dates off. October 30 is the day before the Florida game, and November 25 is three days before the Tech game.
But they will have to take a day off inside those months...
The week before is an off-week, so you can bet there will be some late sleepers that week. Those of us at OSG HQ imagine that the Butts-Mehre building will be fairly empty- since no one on furlough can even show up on campus.
There are a lot of people think that Defensive Coordinator Willy Martinez is already on furlough, so he can be around more than the other coaches on the Richt staff.
