Barrow Whaler Watch: Week 3

It's pronounced "Aisle-Son," thank you very much...
And there's a reason they're ranked number two in the small-school classification in Alaska...

The Barrow Whalers were their next victim, much to the dismay of us at OSG HQ...

The Ravens scored the first 21 points en route to a 48-13 win over the Whalers in a Greatland Conference high school football game on Saturday afternoon in Barrow.

“They definitely played a physical football game,” Eielson head coach David DeVaughn said by cell phone. “I think they felt a little vindicated there with last year’s loss.”

Barrow took 2008’s showdown at Eielson 32-28 with a touchdown pass by quarterback Albert Gerke in the final minute. The game was key to the Whalers’ Greatland title, which was decided by a coin flip later in the season

The Whalers fell to 0-3 and 0-2 in conference, but head coach Mark Voss was pleased by Barrow’s performance Saturday.

“We played our most physical ball game this year,” Voss said by phone. “We went out and did some hitting today that we had not done in the last two games. ... I feel like our level of intensity went up quite a bit.”

H/T to the Wizofodds for reminding us that it's high school football season...
