Spurrier Disappointed In Geathers

((HT: WLTX-TV))

USC Head Coach Steve Spurrier has issued his first statement on the arrest of one of his players this past weekend.

Defensive lineman Clifton Geathers ((mugshot pictured, thanks WLTX-TV)) was arrested early Sunday morning after a fight at a Columbia nightclub.

"We are disappointed in the actions of Clifton Geathers the other night," Spurrier said in a written statement. "He has been suspended indefinitely from the team until all the facts come in."'

Police say at 3:10 a.m., Columbia police responded to a call about a fight at Club ICE on Lady Street in the Vista.

When they got there, that's when police say they tried to break up the crowd in the parking lot to get to two people fighting closer to the building.

As police got up on the fight, that's when they realized a security guard at ICE and 21-year-old Geathers were in a brawl.

They say they tried to handcuff Geathers but he was resisting, flailing his arms, and yelling obscenities.

Police say it took two officers to finally get the football player in handcuffs. They say he refused to comply and smelled of alcohol.

Geathers has been charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and drunkenness.

He is out on bond.

Those of us at OSG HQ think that Geathers indefinite suspension will last a definite period of time- at least until the first conference game...
