The school announced Tuesday morning that Glanville had step down as head football coach of the Vikings and his entire staff is leaving to.
The Jerry Glanville era at Portland State did not come close to what was hoped for. PSU hired Glanville to make a public relations splash to a once proud program fallen on hard times. Instead the Vikings went from mediocrity to the bottom of the Big Sky Conference. Portland State finished the 2009 season a school worst 2-9, 1-7 in the Big Sky.
"I want to thank Coach Glanville for his dedication to Portland State Football and the greater University and community," said Portland State Athletic Director Torre Chisholm said in a statement released by the university. "Although the program didn't achieve the competitive success that either of us hoped for, it was not for lack of effort or commitment. His time on the Park Blocks will be remembered, perhaps not for the win-loss record, for the personality and attitude he brought to the University - an attitude that was infectious among our entire staff."
During his three years at Portland State, Glanville didn't endear himself much. He clashed with players who didn't follow the program, most he ran off by not renewing their scholarships.
Last spring Moose Davis, who was a head coach at Portland State, quit as offensive coordinator when Glanville got involved with offensive decisions. Davis thought he would have full autonomy of the offense but Glanville demanded changes.
That move rubbed the Portland State players and long time boosters the wrong way.
Portland State has begun a search to find a new head coach.
I wonder what Neil Lomax is doing these days.
