The Curse Of The Chick - Fil - A Classic Strikes The ACC Again

Is it me or is the ACC representative of the annual Chick-Fil-AKickoff just cursed because there is some voodoo going on.

Last year in that game Clemson got worked over by Alabama 34-10. The Tigers didn't recover until Tommy Bowden resigned in mid-October then going "all-in" for Dabo Swinney.

Now Virginia Tech has lost their stud running back Darren Evans for the season due to an ACL tear Tuesday some 3 weeks before they open against that same Alabama team at the Georgia Dome in the Atlanta Kickoff Classic.

"He was evaluated by Dr. Marc Siegel and Dr. Gunnar Brolinson and received an MRI at Montgomery Regional Hospital that showed the ACL tear." Virginia Tech head trainer Mike Goforth said in a statement released by the Virginia Tech sports information office.

“Obviously we are all saddened by the results of his MRI, but we all know what type of young man Darren is and we have no doubt that he will come back stronger than ever.” Goforth added.

This is a huge blow not only to the Virginia Tech backfield but you have to think to the teams psyche. Like Clemson last year Virginia Tech is carrying the ACC banner against argueable the most storied football program in the South, Alabama, from the big, bad SEC. I doubt if Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer or anyone else from the Hokies would admit it but there has to be some pressure in winning the opener vs Alabama to upgrade the ACC's stature in the college football food chain.

With Evans sidelined for 2009 Virginia Tech's back field will have to rely on Josh Oglesby, who has 38 career carries for 88 yards, a redshirt freshman Ryan Williams and a true freshman David Wilson.

Tyrod Taylor, your job just got a little more difficult.

You have to wonder if some crazed Alabama or SEC fan twisted the knee of their ACC or for that matter Virginia Tech voodoo doll because this is just weird.

North Carolina might be the ACC representative in the game next year against LSU. Sounds like the Tar Heels might want to find a good witch doctor for 2010 if it happens.
