When Strikeforce MMA became the WWE...

Many people regard the MMA sport as a violent version of Professional Wrestling. Heck, the state of New York will not allow them to stage an event there. However, if you follow or pay attention to it, really it is quite controlled and regulated and up until last night, had become quite an honorable sport.

And then this. Saturday night in Nashville, the Strikeforce group, not the most popular MMA group, UFC is, had a post fight issue that basically looked like a battle royal in the WWE.

The melee ensued after the featured bout, which by the way was shown on CBS and coincidentally announced by OSG and internet favorite, Gus Johnson.

That headline bout, where Jake Shields beat Dan Henderson, was supposed to be the end to the program. However, CBS had some time to fill, so Gus went into the ring to get an interview with Shields. That's when fighter Jason "Mayhem" Miller went WWE. He bounced into the ring and interrupted the interview. Other fighters saw this and didn't like it and that's when the mayhem ensued. Though strangely, other than a brief attempt at stopping the craziness, Gus didn't have much to say.

Needless to say, it was both a humorous and scary attempt at theatrics. It begs the question of whether it was a planned set-up or it was just a coincidence. Either way it was interesting and undoubtedly it will draw a little more attention to sport...and a promoter in need of it.
