The Seminoles, The Everetts, And ALS

((HT: Fanhouse/Henry))

The Florida State Seminole baseball team, in conjunction with the Florida State Department of Athletics and ALS Association Florida Chapter, hosted a game on "ALS Awareness Night" last week. The father of Seminoles pitcher Tyler Everett, Jimmy Everett, is battling the disease.

The team was fortunate enough to have Jimmy, a high school athlete under FSU head coach Mike Martin, throw out the first pitch to his son at Dick Howser Stadium.

"It's the most emotional experience I've had since I've been at Florida State," Martin said following the game to seminoles.com. "I can honestly say that there are a lot of things that you don't understand (about the disease) and that's certainly one of them."

Tyler pitched the first inning and retired Charleston Southern 1-2-3 on the Noles way to a 12-4 win.

"I thought about that; about how he would respond," said Martin. "He went out there and pitched like Tyler Everett. Like his daddy being the outstanding coach that he is expected him to do. He went out there and pitched extremely well and got us in the dugout. He set the tone."
