UPDATE: Thrashers have an interested buyer... Not Rollins After All... So Far...

Yeah, you read the title correctly. It appears as though the thought of the Atlanta Thrashers being sold isn't so crazy after all.

The good news for folks in Atlanta, the one guy who has said publicly now that he would be interested in buying them, wants to keep them in Atlanta. According to a story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the head of Lightning Pictures in Hollywood, Stephen Rollins, has expressed an interest in purchasing the team. Rollins grew up in Atlanta.

It appears that the Atlanta Spirit group which currently owns the team is exploring its options. The much bally-hooed option that would move the team to Winnipeg is looking less and less likely, considering that Winnipeg may be the fallback option for the Phoenix Coyotes.

We will keep an eye out on this story.

In the meantime, enjoy a classic Thrashers enforcer Eric Boulton fight. This time it is against Shawn Thornton of the Boston Bruins.

FRIDAY UPDATE via Howard Bloom: The AJC's Chris Vivlamore is now reporting Rollins is not one of the three groups in current contact with Atlanta Spirit. Bruce Levenson and Don Waddell both confirmed this to the paper.

Rollins tells the paper that he is part of a "multi-city financial entity" that is set to purchase a majority interest in an NHL team.

“If the opportunity would present itself for me to participate in ownership of the Atlanta Thrashers I would be more than excited,” Rollins said. “I would be humbled with a partnership at any level.”

As in the case with Thomson-Chipman and Winnipeg, saying nothing or denying everything is, seemingly, the way to go...
