Indy HS Coaches Resign After Players Arrests In Bullying Case

((HT: WTHR-TV Indianapolis))

Carmel-Clay ((IN)) high school administrators didn't wait long after charges were filed against four members of the basketball team before replacing most of the team's coaches.

"Accordingly, a substantial change in leadership was necessary and has been carried out,"
said Dr. Jeff Swensson, superintendent, Carmel-Clay Schools.

Three freshman coaches ((pictured, thanks WTHR-TV)) who were on the team bus when the alleged assaults on a younger player occurred in late January have been fired. School officials say that they also accepted the resignation of head coach Mark Galloway.

One school board member said that it probably wouldn't look good if the district kept the coaches, adding that the indictments meant that they didn't do their jobs.

This comes on the heels of four senior Carmel High basketball players being indicted on misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal recklessness on alleged locker room assaults. The students surrendered to authorities in Hamilton County, Indiana. All four posted bail...

One freshman was, apparently, held down in the back of the team bus coming home from a game in the town of Terre Haute. One of the seniors is also accused of assaulting that same student in a locker room.

The characterization is that of "extreme hazing."
