Big 10 Expansion, Stop The Madness

Brother Phil posted this on Monday that according to a Kansas City radio station the Big 10 has already extended invites to Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Rutgers. Tuesday Big 10 commish Jim Delany e-mailed conference officials saying this rumor is just that and no invitations are in the mail.

It's just the latest in the billions and billions of scenerios that are out there since Delany spilled the beans that the Big 10 conference is "exploring" the possibility of expanding. Now college athletics is spinning out of control.

Don't blame the University of Missouri for lobbying for an invite to the 10 because should Mizzou make the move, it would mean major moolah. According to the Columbia (Mo.) Missourian, Mizzou is not very pleased with the way the Big 12 conference distributes revenue to the schools.
Of course if and when the Big 10 reveals its expansion plans and drops the first domino the rest will fall. How many scenarios have you read as to how those dominoes will fall? I've lost count. The basic theme is the Big East will be padlocked and out of the football business, The ACC will lose their schools with football tradition to the SEC and pick up the Big East's homeless, the SEC will raid the ACC and beg and plead Texas (and Texas A&M) to join their conference and the Big 12 will be hurt, maybe fatally should Texas jump ship.

Then there is the sudden interest in the fate of the University of Arkansas. Rumors have been flying that the Razorbacks will somehow end up in the Big 12 as the dominoes fall. Yes the Big 12 would be a natural fit geographically for Arkansas, the Hogs would renew old acquaintances and refocus on their old recruiting bases from their Southwest Conference days.

There are reasons why Arkansas joined the SEC 20 years ago and it remains the same today, money. I agree with FSOG Tony Barnhart who said in his blog in the AJC.com there is no chance Arkansas jumps the SEC ship.

The Big 10 is going to expand and the conference seems to be in no hurry to reveal their cards. Meanwhile every one else appears to be on the edge of their seat as to what happens next.

The summer silly season will be a doozy.
