Wittels Hit Streak At 47, And 48

Okay, he was tied for second...

FIU's Garrett Wittels now has the second-longest hitting streak in Division I history, getting a hit in his 47th and 48th straight games against FAU.

Wittels tied Wichita State's Phil Stephenson, who hit in 47 straight games back in 1981 Friday. Oklahoma State's Robin Ventura holds the NCAA record with a 58-game streak in 1987.

Wittels hit a single to left off FAU's Mike Gipson in the third inning after getting hit by a pitch in the first inning.

Here's interviews with Wittels and Head Coach Turtle Thomas explaining what the streak means to the program...
Thanks to FIU their own selves...
