Film-Maker Rollins Interested In Thrashers...? Again...??? UPDATE: Or Not...

((HT: Odum, AP/AJC))

Haven't we been here before...???

Charles Odum in an Associated Press piece is letting us all know that filmmaker Stephen Rollins is interested in a stake in the Atlanta Thrashers.

Rollins, an Atlanta native, says he's working with a large investment firm and they're looking at several NHL franchises to be a part of- the Thrashers are among the list. He wouldn't say what the firm is nor would he say who the other teams are that they're looking at for ownership.

From Odum:

"We do have a group that's assembled and we're looking at all of our options, including Atlanta," Rollins told Odum. "We're looking at various teams. ... We're hoping to move forward in the near future. With the state of the economy, nobody wants to rush into anything."

Last year, Rollins came forth and said that he wanted to be a majority owner, but now he's hooked up with one of the "largest hedge fund owners around" ((his words)) and he has met with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman in the past on the idea of being an owner in the league.

He's the head of Lightning Pictures, LLC, listed an independent production company in Culver City, California. Rollins also told Odum that he and his group are looking to find "adequate finances" on Atlanta Spirit at present.

Also from Odum's article:

"The only issue now is getting correct numbers because we've gotten like five different sets of figures," Rollins said, adding the investment group's "CEO wants the numbers certified."

The HQ is of the belief that Rollins won't like what he sees, and he and his group are going elsewhere...

FOSG Jeff Schultz of the AJC, once again, continues his ongoing evisceration of Atlanta Spirit in his new column...

An interesting read without fault...

FRIDAY UPDATE: Vivlamore found out Rollins is not a viable candidate for the Thrashers ownership. He and/or his group have not made an offer and "are unlikely to do so."

From Vivlamore's update...

According to a league official, there are no buyers currently in line to purchase the franchise. According to two other people familiar with the situation, Rollins’ group is not considered a viable candidate.

Shock and stun reign supreme...
