A sad story to report from the Orlando suburbs. A 15-year old High school football player at Wekiva High School died late this afternoon after collapsing on the football field. That 9th grader was stretching on the field when he passed out. The heat index was estimated at over 100 degrees in the area this afternoon.

The Orlando Sentinel has details RIGHT HERE

The Sentinel has the young man's name and if you are interested you can read the story. We have decided not to print it on our website out of respect.

There aren't a lot of details on this story as it is still unfolding. We'll check on it periodically to see what follow-ups are available.

Here is the late-night TV story from myfoxorlando.com/WOFL-TV:

And your morning update...

The second incident involved a different high school football player. Officials said the football player, a high school senior, was practicing at Spruce Creek High School in the Orlando suburb of Port Orange when he collapsed.

They say the athlete took a direct hit in the chest from the helmet of another player. An off duty police officer performed CPR while the assistant AD used a portable defibrillator on site. Paramedics arrived and found Petersen unresponsive but with a pulse.

The student was listed in critical condition at Halifax Medical Center in a medically induced coma Wednesday morning.
