Danny Wuerffel, former Heisman Trophy winner at the University of Florida who played in the NFL briefly, was released yesterday from a Hospital after being treated for Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

The nerve disease does have the potential for being fatal, though it's thought to be treatable if addressed early.

According to the report from the Gainesville Sun's Pat Dooley, Wuerffel hasn't been feeling right since some time in May. He was diagnosed last week, but his doctors believe the disease was caught early and Wuerffel should have a full recovery.

We've interviewed Wuerffel before and came away completely impressed with the man and what he has done since retiring from Football. He's a part of Desire Street Ministries in New Orleans and Atlanta, he spent a couple of seasons as a backup Quarterback and he's written a book.

Danny Wuerffel is one of a handful of athletes who've used his sports notoriety for the greater good. We wish him the best in his battle and hope he can continue the great work he's done.
