NASCAR Suspends 2009 Testing

Remember that whole "economy" thing we've been talking about...?

Well, NASCAR is talking about it again...

Instead of teams merging, the governing body is trying to save money and create one LESS thing the drivers have to worry about as PR machines these days. All five NASCAR based series are suspending testing for the upcoming season. Yes, we mean everything from NASCAR, Nationwide, trucks, and NASCAR East and West.

From the NASCAR folks their own selves...ahem... quote...

"NASCAR reached this decision following several months of discussion with the teams regarding testing, coupled with the current economic conditions. The suspension of testing should save the industry millions of dollars.

"This is a significant move during an unusual time for all of us," said NASCAR President Mike Helton in making the announcement. “NASCAR has routinely adjusted its test policy over the years to reflect current conditions. This is another example of that.”

It also keeps the drivers from being spread too thinly during the season going from race track to testing track to public appearance to qualifying to racing multiple times on any given weekend.

I don't think they'll complain too much... and who knows...? It may actually save a few bucks...
