And we're doing a story on it because he was a favorite when we were kids. Meadowlark Lemon, former Harlem Globetrotter, ordained minister and funny guy, is now 80 years old.

Would you believe that he's still playing basketball? He is. He's got his own team, "Meadowlark Lemon's Harlem All-Stars" and he plays. Most games, most nights. He's there, on the floor doing what he's done since 1955.

More from an excellent article by the LA Times RIGHT HERE

Lemon, perennially paired with Curly Neal were the two most memorable parts of the 'Trotters. A somewhat all-star team of guys who played basketball...played it for fun. They were huge in the '70's and '80's, often playing before packed houses. They were frequently featured on ABC's Wide World of Sports and they even had their own Saturday morning cartoon. Really...does it get much better than that.

Really, this is kind of a good excuse to post the opening to the Globetrotters cartoon, which you've got to admit is pretty catchy, isn't it?
