Navratilova dealing with Breast Cancer

((HT-ABC/Good Morning America))

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova announced today on Good Morning America that she is a survivor. A survivor or breast cancer. Navratilova, 53, went in for a routine mammogram in February when doctors found an aggressive form of DCIS (acronym for a long description), but the key was that they caught it early. She underwent a lumpectomy shortly afterwords where the doctors were able to determine that the cancer hadn't spread.

For those unfamiliar with Navratilova, she was part of what is generally considered the golden age of women's tennis. From her battles with Chris Evert and others, she become one of the, if not the greatest women's tennis player of all-time. She was ranked number 1 for 331 weeks in her career. She retired from tennis in 1994. We wish her well and are glad to hear that her outlook is extremely good. Her story also should reinforce that women should get checked frequently, regardless of their health.

This isn't today's story, but an older one on Navratilova's fitness book, when it was published a couple of years ago. Thanks for the story abcnews.com:
