Okay, give DePaul University credit, they managed to surprise just about everyone this morning when they announced their new head basketball coach. That coach, Oliver Purnell, was the coach at Clemson...in the ACC.

Well, Purnell in a sense gives DePaul some much needed credibility. He's been in the game as a head coach for 22-plus years with stops at Old Dominion, Radford (where he and I crossed paths), Dayton, Clemson and now heading to Chicago.
He has a reputation as someone who can resurrect a struggling program, a category that DePaul certainly falls into. However, with all of that success he has gone a sterling 0-6 in NCAA Tournament games. He will get almost double what the folks at Clemson were paying him and the "Official" announcement will be Tuesday afternoon.
Here is the story from WYFF-TV in Greeneville, South Carolina.
