Arizona Moving Title Games To... Monday...???

The Arizona Interscholastic Association has scheduled their Class 5A Division I and II football championship double-header for Monday, December 13th (Dec.13) at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.

AIA Chief Operating Officer Chuck Schmidt said that the NFL schedule of three straight Cardinals games on November 29th, December 5th, and December 12th forced the double-header on Monday.

"I don't think it's frustrating," Schmidt said. "In the very initial stages of the agreement (with UOP and the Cardinals), we only had five conferences. It was the year after we changed into seven. We've been trying to accommodate that with two games. With the new divisions structure (next year), we'll put a plan in place in regards to long term."

Wilkie: Sounds like to me the Arizona Interscholastic Association was backed in a corner and wasn't competent enough to make a decision in the in the best interest of the student/athletes. How can you play a state championship football game on a school night? Do you want to play for some student athletes the football game of their life when you brain is fried from a full day of classes or even catch up on a day missed of class? Quite frankly who's going to show up to watch a high school football game on a Monday night?

I would think moving those games back a week and play on Friday or Saturday night would be the best alternative.
