Philadelphia Flyers winger Daniel Briere and his 9-year-old son, Cameron, were involved in a crash on Interstate 81 North in the New York town of Kirkwood early this morning.
They were not seriously injured. Briere was treated for an unspecified arm injury at a Binghamton hospital and his son complained of neck pain at the scene.
New York State Police say Briere's 2010 Land Rover was traveling in the passing lane next to a tractor trailer. Sergeant Steven Barlow, spokesman for the New York State Police, says Briere was drowsy and drifted into the right lane.
The Land Rover side-swiped the tractor trailer. The truck then swerved, jack-knifed, and rolled blocking traffic for about five hours. It came to a stop across both lanes of 81 North around 12:30 am Thursday.
Briere's Land Rover hit a guiderail and came to a stop.
