DEVELOPING: McGarity To Be New UGA AD

WSB-TV in Atlanta is reporting, through those ever-popular confirming sources, that Greg McGarity will be the new AD at the University of Georgia.

McGarity is currently the executive senior associate athletics director at the University of Florida. At Florida, McGarity is responsible for "event operations, video services, communications and he helps supervise the football and men's basketball programs."

Whew...

“There’s nothing to say. I’m just letting the process run its course,” McGarity told the Athens-Banner Herald earlier in July. “I’d rather not make a comment. ... I have submitted my information and we'll just see what happens.”

McGarity received his graduate degree from UGA in 1976, and Vince Dooley named him assistant athletic director for facilities and event management in 1988. He stayed at UGA for four years until leaving for Gainesville.

He was one of Jeremy Foley's first hires... and now gets hired to come back to Athens. There was talk that, when the AD job was open last time, McGarity's allegiance to Dooley was the reason ((or one of the reasons)) that UGA President Michael Adams didn't hire him and went for Damon Evans.

Hopefully, that has been set aside this round...

More when we know more...
